Rim Fire Update, 8/31/13: Cold Springs Water Company staff has been in contact with Cal Fire on a daily basis since the Rim Fire has been a threat to our area. We have met with Cal Fire officials and provided them with maps of the Cold Springs and Peter Pam areas which include hydrant and water tank locations. Like a lot of you, we also have been providing them with local knowledge they need to protect our area. We have also rented and installed a 45KW generator for the Peter Pam well that will allow us to pump water to keep the tanks full and hydrants charged if the fire were to interrupt PGE’s ability to provide power. Each day brings more containment of the Rim Fire, however we are not out of the woods yet. We also want to thank the staffs at Cold Springs Realty and Cold Springs Market. They have been answering your phone calls, providing local knowledge to the firefighters and many other helpful tasks during this emergency. Thank you Cold Springs Realty and Cold Springs Market!

The RIM fire is a grave reminder that we live in a very hazardous part of the sierras. I would sure encourage some type of cold springs community communication plan for these types of situations, where reverse 911 will not help those of us who don’t live here full time. Any interest?

Hi Mike, We are also interested. We need a phone tree where each person notifies so many people. the first people would need to be from permanent residents. just a thought.

We dodged a bullet, but I have seen a neighbor on Old Mono Rd. dump brush in the forest at the end of Old Mono. I also saw a paid cleanup guy dump brush at the end of Old Mono. I called the forest station and Cal Fire when this happened last Summer. Next time I will give the addresses that the brush is coming from. This is adding fuel to a potential fire that will burn your, and our cabin, down….

What is the plan after PGE finishes cutting dead trees in Cold Springs? Is the County going to cut the balance? Who will haul the cut trees from our properties?

To all Cold Springs residents with Wells !!! Please be aware that Bill AB30 and AB51 being introduced in the state Senate could if passed put Meter’s on your Well and charge you and sell your water ! Contact your assembly person Jill Rolled and Senator Heidi Gander to protest this corporate motivated bill that will take your water rights away . A big culprit for this the Stone gate development .
